New Filter Media Attacks Tobacco Odors |
| |
Results of recent tests reveal that a new air filter media is twice as effective as other media in removing tobacco odors from buildings. The results were released by the University of Tulsa, Center for Environmental Research and Technology.
U of T tested four separate media, using highly effective activated carbon, or other gaseous contaminant cleaners, to remove odors and irritants being caused by environmental tobacco smoke (ETS). Conducted under the supervision of Dr. Richard Shaughnessey, the tests showed that a new product known as "AQF+" media performed more than twice as effectively as the next best performing media.
This testing was performed in an air chamber designed specifically for this purpose. Initially, the test chamber was washed and flushed with filtered fresh air. Then 10 de-filtered cigarettes were lit and allowed to smolder while a ceiling fan operated. Air removed by the fan was passed through each of the four separate types of media. Analytical results confirmed that the AQF+ did twice as well as any other media.
AQF Technologies of Charlotte, North Carolina, will be offering the new filtration media in the coming months.
Although it's not a solution to second-hand tobacco smoke for those in the smoking rooms, AQF+ does appear to offer more protection for nonsmokers than other options. |
